WELCOME to the NSCA Website! Welcome to the web site of North Staffs Carers Association.
The Association's origins date back to a 1983 research project initiated by the North Staffs Family Care - Lichfield Diocesan Society.
This project explored the experiences of Carers and led to the publication of a hand- book 'Day After Day' - A guide for those caring for an elderly relative. In tandem with the appearance of this publication, the first Carers' Support Group was established in Newcastle under Lyme.
In 1985, a Carers' Support Committee was established to look at the best ways of supporting Carers across North Staffordshire. In 1987, funding was secured to appoint a Development Worker whose role was to set up Support Groups for Carers - mainly Carers of older people. The Association was then called "North Staffs Association of Carers' Support Groups"
In 1995, the Association extended its services to provide information, representational services, emotional support, and training. At this time, the Association changed its name to North Staffs Carers Association.
In 2007 we celebrated our 20th Year of providing a quality service to Carers in North Staffordshire. The Board announced ambitious plans to have our own Carers Centre - a Centre of Excellence where Carers and the Cared for can receive a service and a well-earned break. This, in turn, has lead to the launch of our Carers Prize Draw Club and Legacy Campaign, which will provide unrestricted funds to enable us to meet the plans laid out in the Business Plan and ultimately lead to the Carers Centre becoming a tangible asset to Carers.
North Staffs Carers Association has grown appreciably over the last few years, supporting even more Carers, with a wider range of services. The majority of that growth has been derived from a greater focus on Carers, from the Government and Social Care and Health Authorities, along with increased external funding. We are extremely proud to have received £445,735 from the Big Lottery Reaching Communities programme to launch our CRASH (Carers Rapid Action Support & Help) service, which will be up and running in June 2008. This will enable a high level step up step down approach for Carers dipping in and out of the various services that we offer including working closely with volunteers to provide much-needed befriending service. The funding is for three full time workers over the next five years making our goals even more achievable. An exciting time for everyone.
Our ultimate aim is to provide a range of support services to Carers that becomes the benchmark for other Carers' Associations to strive for.
The Board of Directors, along with the Management Team, are really excited about the changes and are looking forward to providing an even better service to Carers in North Staffordshire.
