INFORMATION FOR PROFESSIONALS

An important part of North Staffs Carers Association's work is raising awareness of Carers' issues and offering advice and support, to the professionals who work with them. On this page, you will find information about the services NSCA offers, to help you help Carers

PUBLICATIONS:

THE GUIDE TO NORTH STAFFS CARERS ASSOCIATION

Many professionals are unaware of just how wide a range of services NSCA offers to Carers and to the people who work with them. We have produced a booklet about our services. It is called "The Guide to North Staffs Carers Association" and is freely available to health and social care professionals. (A condensed version is also available in leaflet form).

If you would like copies of the booklet, or the leaflet - contact the Link Team on 01782 831612

The Carers' Link team are producing Information Sheets about Carer related issues, which may be of interest to professionals who work with Carers. The following Fact Sheets are available:

  • Carers' Registers
  • Carers' Assessments
  • Lasting Power of Attorney
  • Identifying Carers

PARTNERSHIP WORK

YOUNG CARERS DEPARTMENT

The Young Carers' Department works in partnership with all statutory, non-statutory and voluntary agencies. All support offered to Young Carers and their families is confidential and completely free of charge.

We are able to take referrals from all agencies, parents and Young Carers themselves. (All referrals to the Young Carers' Department must come with parental, or guardian, consent). Referrals can be made by contacting the Young Carers Department on the following number: 01782 834836.

When working with young people it is often over-looked that the young person may be a Young Carer with the caring responsibilities usually associated with adulthood. For many Young Carers their caring role is a difficult and lonely experience with little help or support from others. For most Young Carers their caring role will be kept secret from the outside world, due to the fear of the family being split up.

It is important when working with families where there may be illness, disability, mental health issues, or alcohol or drug problems, to consider the impact on the children and young people in the family. If a young person is carrying out considerable amounts of care and in turn their caring responsibilities are affecting their emotional, social, psychological and educational development, they may need help and support from the Young Carers Department.

If you have any concerns regarding a young person who you think may be a Young Carer, we can offer you information about how they can be helped and supported.

The Young Carers Team have produced a leaflet for professionals, which you can download by clicking here

For more information about our work please visit the Young Carers page.

CARER AWARENESS

TNSCA is dedicated to raising awareness of Carers among professionals whose work may bring them into contact with Carers.

Our staff regularly hold training sessions for professionals and are happy to come along to staff meetings, away days, etc to answer questions and explain more about our work.

(Alternately you are welcome to call into our offices and see at first hand what we do. Just give us a call on 01782 834836 and we'll have the kettle on by the time you get here!)
