Considering Volunteering for North Staffs Carers Association?
Don't know how to go about it?

In 1997, 22 million people volunteered in the UK. Yet 11 million people said they were waiting to be asked! There are not the opportunities for those 11 million people! But, we can find volunteering opportunities for anyone with a few hours to spare, whether over a week or a month, or just as a one-off. Volunteering could help you:

  • Make a difference to someone's life
  • Use your own life experiences to help others
  • Gain work experience
  • Make friends and spend time with like-minded people
  • Develop your personal skills
  • Enhance your CV
Fill your time during a week/month

Volunteering for Good Health

It was once said that volunteering was about giving and not about receiving. Now many volunteers are finding that in return for their good deeds they are receiving much more in return. Volunteers are gaining more confidence, better health and mental well-being. Experts are increasingly saying that volunteering is beginning to play an increasingly important role in the health of the Nation.

A recent ICM poll for Community Service Volunteers (CSV) and Barclays Bank, of more than six hundred volunteers, found that nearly half suggested that volunteering has improved their physical health and fitness. 44% said that volunteering made them feel less depressed and stressed, because they were able to leave the house more often and mix with people they would not have met without volunteering. A spokesperson for the CSV said that volunteering is a good antidote for the pressures of modern life, "There is a lot of stress in modern living and people find that volunteering gives people a break and a coping strategy. It is also an opportunity to engage with the local community, to make friends and to feel part of the local area, which can help to cut stress levels".

As volunteering is becoming more accessible with Government initiatives to boost volunteering opportunities, there will be more for people to do. With North Staffs Carers Association there are many and varied volunteering opportunities: from basic office administration to 0attending support groups with staff members or helping out at special events.

Jane Harding is our Chief Officer, and is happy to discuss volunteering opportunities, the possibilities of volunteering for the Association, opportunities to gain new skills to help with further career development, or any issues surrounding volunteering.
